Samantha Bergbauer writes about the “Providence College/Smith Hill Annex”, which is a community space that anyone can use for the purpose of conversation. This room was not like a large lecture hall one would find on a campus or a fully equipped conference room, but this space gave anyone in the community an opportunity to talk with others and share their opinions. Bringing together campuses and communities in a collaborative and safe space allows for creative freedom and progress.

Ryan Dwyer is a VISTA and member of the Rhode Island Urban Debate League, and he works with students on improving their debating skills. Dwyer even got to experience being a judge for his debate students, which was a new role for him to play. He writes, “Working as an AmeriCorps*VISTA is truly an exciting and enlightening experience. Although it is commonly referred to as “indirect service”, I am so often directly seeing the impact of my work, and bearing witness to many new progressive and exciting ideas in education.”
Educators from across the state of Rhode Island gather today, December 13th, to discuss challenges in the field of college access and success. These leaders in education will share their experiences in an effort to spark a robust discussion of current challenges, ongoing solutions, and the role of PK-16 partnerships in their work.
