RI Partnerships for Success (PFS) is an initiative of Rhode Island Campus Compact that seeks to strengthen partnerships between schools and institutions of higher education in Rhode Island. Led by an Advisory Council of PK-16 education representatives, PFS works in response to the specific needs of the Rhode Island education community, promoting partnerships as a strategy for educational outcomes.
Mission: To leverage the educational assets of Rhode Island’s institutions of higher education to enhance PK-16 school-based partnerships that prepare students to realize their own goals in higher education, careers, and active citizenship.
The PFS Partnership Rubric forms the guiding document of the PFS initiative. An assessment tool designed to support partnership development, the PFS Rubric articulates five standards of partnership practice and corresponding examples of Emerging, Developing, and Transformative partnership practice. Developed with the input of a subcommittee of the PFS Advisory Council, the Rubric is based on best practices in the fields of service-learning and campus-community partnerships and the collective expertise of PK-16 partnership practitioners in Rhode Island.
The PFS Rubric aims to serve as an accessible, flexible, and uplifting tool for practitioners. The Rubric is a means to reflect on where you are and offer different paths for deepening your partnership practice. Consequently, no partnership should expect to be transformative in every category, nor should that be the goal. It does not offer a ‘good’ or ‘bad’ rating, but humbly offers a reflection on your partnership practice.
Created as a resource for PK-16 partnerships, the Rubric has been widely adapted to a variety of settings and content areas encompassing:
- Student orientation to community-based learning
- Institutional Strategic Planning
- Tool for Faculty Workshop on Campus-community Partnerships
- Resource for cross-sector collaboration grant-making
- Teacher education partnerships with school districts
- Qualitative Interview document for Institution-District Partnership Pilot Case Study
Resources available to supplement the Rubric include the Rubric Chart, a one-page chart to easily plot a partnership, and Qualitative Interview Questions based off of the Rubric and utilized in the PFS Pilot Case Study project.
