RI CAMPUS COMPACT ANNOUNCES INTERIM EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island (January 15, 2016) – The Board of Rhode Island Campus Compact (RICC), a coalition of colleges and universities dedicated to civic and community engagement in RI, announces Matt Farley as Interim Executive Director. Farley currently works as Executive Director of Connecticut Campus Compact (CTCC) and will dedicate twenty percent of his time from January to June 2016 to guide the overall direction and activities of RI Campus Compact. Additionally, Farley will collaborate with both the CTCC and RICC Boards to explore a regional approach to the work of Campus Compact.
“Rhode Island institutions of higher education are excited at the prospect of having Matt Farley as our Executive Director for the remainder of this academic year. We have every confidence in Matt, given his education, experience, and values” stated Donald Farish, President of Roger Williams University and Board Chair of RICC. “Over the next few months we will be exploring the possibility of a longer term relationship between the Rhode Island and Connecticut affiliates of Campus Compact. We fully appreciate the magnitude of the impact on our students and our communities that can come from the combined efforts of institutions in two states, sharing a common purpose and organization. It is an exciting time to be a part of Campus Compact.”
Farley’s current role with CTCC positions him well to support RICC on an interim basis. Since joining Campus Compact, Farley has been an active leader in regional collaboration including Eastern Region Campus Compact conference and representing the Compact on the national Civic Learning and Democratic Engagement Working Group led by the Association of American Colleges & Universities. In his short time as CTCC Executive Director, Farley has expanded its AmeriCorps*VISTA project, developed several statewide initiatives in areas of civic engagement, and initiated a multi-year strategic planning process. Farley shares,
It is a great honor to be a part of the Rhode Island Campus Compact team because Rhode Island has been a leader in civic learning and engagement regionally and nationally. Over the past 12 years I have been fortunate to meet and know many colleagues in RI because of Campus Compact regional conferences, trainings, and network meetings. The RICC coalition is comprised of accomplished scholars, practitioners, and campus leaders who are deeply committed to social change, and I’m eager to collaborate with such a committed group of colleagues.
Farley has over 15 years of experience in leading campus-community partnership initiatives. Prior to Campus Compact, Farley held multiple positions in academic affairs, student affairs, and campus ministry at Fort Lewis College, Stonehill College, Harvard University, and the University of Connecticut (UConn). In his most recent position as Director of the UConn Office of Community Outreach, Farley directed community service and service-learning initiatives, chaired the Provost’s Service-Learning Committee, and held multiple roles within the Public Engagement Forum. During Farley’s tenure, UConn was recognized with the Carnegie Classification for Community Engagement and the Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll President’s Award. Matt has a BS in Business Administration from Stonehill College and a Master’s in Public Administration from UConn.
